I have tried it many ways and I still cannot get it to work. I am using VBA 1.7.4 on Mac OSX trying to play Pokemon Silve r. Okay I had the same problem for quite a while and I just recentlyfigured it out. So, basically, when you downloaded VBA on yourdesktop you should see a white drive symbol for VisualBoyAdvanced. What I did is 'control click' on this and chose to 'Duplicate' it.Once it duplicates there should be a fo lder that was created.Basically what you want to do is control click the folder and clickon 'get info'. Once that page pops up click on the little padlockdown in the lower right corner and Input your password or whateverto unlock it. I made it a shared folder just to be completely sure.And to be even more sure, go down to the sharing permissions partand make them all 'read and write'. Now I don't think you necessarily have to copy that folder intoyour H.D.D. But I put it into my applications folder just to makesure.
And once you do all that the only thing you have to be sure of isto KEEP THE EMULATOR IN THE COPIED FOLDER. That cannot be stressedenough. If you take the emulator out of the folder and put it on your, say,desktop or anywhere else for that matter, when you go to save itwon't know where to save to and you will only get an error message. After doing this I found I can freeze game states and save in-game.As long as you leave the emulator in the folder you copied andmoved to applications, you should be able to load game state orload in-game even after closing out of the emulator or shuttingyour computer off. Open up VBA, go to Options at the top, then Click on Joypad, then Configure, then '1.' You should see the current controls, and you can change them if you want.
ANOTHER ISSUE FOR ME! I can seem to use the Start Button. I'm using a Pokemon Ruby ROM for the Mac, and i cant use enter or return for the start button. I tried to configure the keys but it just gave me a menu i couldent get out of with things like 'a = 268' or something like that. How can i get the Start Button to work on Mac VBA Pokemon Ruby?
I do not know if this will help you or not, but I am playing Pokemon Emerald. I have pressed any button that might work, but I just could not get it. When you mentioned that you cannot get the enter or return key to work for you, I switched my start key to the E key. I have finally opened the menu, and can access the bag.
In shot, maybe making the start key something other than the enter key might help. I'm assuming that you are using the emulator the visual boy advance prgramme. You have to download the programme to play.
The game isn't that big. It's about the size of a song.
If you download anything lower than about 2,000KB then watch out! You may be downloading a virus.

I use Limewire myself bu t that doesn't give a very good programme. After downloading something, just drag the icon on your emulator.
