Oce Tds400 Drivers For Mac
Hi All, We've had a number of new machines, which I have been setting up for various users on our network. They all are running 10.10.3, connect to a file server (ubuntu) and connect directly to 3 printers; Konica C364e (copier/printer) Oce TDS400 (large format laser) HP DesignJet T520 (large format colour) When we click print the print dialogue opens quickly and we can swap between the konica and the Oce normally, but when we select the HP we get a spinning wheel and a delay of up to 1min.
Likewise if someone has left their preferred printer as last used and that happens to be the HP the print dialogue takes an age to open. Its obviously an issue with the HP drivers but does anyone know an acceptable work around/alternative driver to get ride of this annoying delay. Most people in the office just deal with it but there are a few characters who are one step away from launching their machines out of the window. The delay can be due to the driver communicating with the printer to determine its status, such as toner and paper levels. This communication is done via SNMP and in some older drivers it was possible to remark out the SNMP setting in the PPD. Alternatively the driver may have a two-way communication setting that you can disable.
As a test, if the HP supports Postscript, then OS X includes a Generic Postscript driver. If you created a new printer to the HP using the Generic Postscript driver, then you could see if this driver also results in a delay when used or selected. Hi PAHU, Thanks for the reply, sounds like a good starting point! I've narrowed the problem down a bit more too. Under fresh copy of 10.10.X the Oce TDS400 would not print; would install happily using a PPD file but when you print it connects but never prints. We found that machines running 10.10.X, updated from 10.9.X and below could print to the TDS400 all day long. On fresh 10.10.x machines we were able to copy over the CUPS folder from a machine that could run the TDS400 and this would allow the new machines to print.
Whilst trying to isolate the problem with the T520, I've found that all of the machines with the copied CUPS folders are the ones which suffer with the long delay. Those that have the original native CUPS do not. So we have two issues /possible courses of action; - Find out how to run the TDS400 on 10.10.x machines - Continue looking into the long delay. The TDS400 driver from the manufacturer is just a PPD file, which makes me think that this should be easier than trying to fix the delay when printing to the T520. Any thoughts?
If Oce simply provides a PPD and no other plugin that the PPD is referring to then it is odd that this doesn't work at all on 10.10. Are you sure you created the print queue using a protocol that this printer supports, such as HP Jetdirect. So assuming the Oce supports Postscript, then I would also try creating a printer to the Oce using the Generic PS driver to see if this will let you print from 10.10. If it does work then you've narrowed it down to the PPD. As to what is in the Oce PPD that is stopping it from printing, you would have to view the PPD in a text editor to see if its attempting to work with some other plugin that may be blocked by the new sandboxing rules in Yosemite.
